Is the Black & Decker SS-12 12v Cordless Drill Worth Buying? Detailed Review

12v cordless drill

When something breaks at home, I prefer to fix it myself. That is why I have a full set of power tools. When I had to buy a new drill, I knew I wanted a cordless model. After doing some research, I chose the Black & Decker SS-12 12v cordless drill. I’ve used it for over a year now and I believe that I have enough experience with it to review it. Here we go.

Design and Size

This is a classic T-handle cordless drill. Because the handle is below the central part of the tool’s body, the weight is more balanced and you don’t get tired that quickly when working. The handle has very good ergonomics, in my opinion.

When it comes to size, the Black & Decker SS-12 12v cordless drill is quite compact measuring 11 by 9.4 by 3.4 inches. It isn’t very heavy. In fact, the battery is smaller and lighter compared to those of the other models which I’ve tried.

Chuck Size and Make

With a 3/8-inch chuck, this power drill accepts a wide variety of bits. This kind of versatility makes it just right for home use. You can do practically all DIY jobs with it. You should not experience any limitations. The chuck’s metal construction makes it even more reliable and highly durable. You can expect it to work properly for a long time to come.

Powerful Performance?

With a 12v battery, this Black & Decker model is powerful enough for all home applications. The motor operates smoothly and delivers a large amount of torque: 130 in lbs. As a result, this 12v cordless drill is perfectly suited for drilling holes through and driving screws into harder materials. I think that it is safe for me to say in this review that this model can handle practically all materials that you will ever work with when it comes to DIY.

Variable Speed Assessment

This has become a common capability of power drills in recent years, but there is something which makes this model stand out – the SmartSelect Clutch system. It eliminates the guesswork associated with speed selection. You just need to select the size of the bit which you will be using with the help of the dial and the system will determine the speed that is best automatically.

It is worth noting that this 12v cordless drill has two speeds. The lower one is 0-400 RPM, while the higher one is 0-1200 RPM. Generally, the lower speed is for heavier applications, while the higher one is for lighter ones.

Dependable Battery?

This Black & Decker 12v cordless drill comes with a single NiCAD battery and a charger. The battery is fairly compact and lightweight. I’m personally quite happy with how long it lasts. I’ve almost never have to interrupt my work because of it. The charger works well and the charging time is quite short. You will never have to wait for long to get your drill back on. I have personally never experienced memory issues with this NiCAD battery and I want to highlight this in my review.

How about Negatives?

The only downside for me is that this power tool comes with a single battery. If it had a set of two like the DEWALT DC970K-2 18v drill, the risk of work interruption because of a drained battery will be virtually eliminated. I have no complaints of the performance or design of the tool.

I find the Black & Decker SS-12 12v cordless drill to be powerful, reliable and versatile. It does all the jobs which I need it for excellently. It appears to be strong and durable too. To access more details and reviews, go to Amazon.

  1. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
